Justin 'The Rajin Cajun' Stelly Interview
October 23, 2009

NSC welcomes US long track ice speed skating world team member Justin Stelly. Justin, who just came off a respectable finish at US long track Olympic trials, has decided to continue with his passion of inline speed skating. NSC was able to catch up with Justin and ask him a few questions.

Justin, after a grueling Olympic trials why not take some time off?

Well the season is not over, we still have our final Olympic selection in December. I didn’t really skate to my abilities this week so I just want to get back home and get back to work.

What is it about inline speed skating that makes you so passionate about it?

There is just something about this sport that I can never get away from. I love the people, the competition, and just being around friends that I’ve known my whole life.

Justin you are known for your entertaining style of racing what do you attribute that to?

When I race I do like to be a little flashy and show off a bit. I have been skating like that my whole life, not sure why, but I just love the crowd’s reaction when I make difficult passes or show off my ability on the floor. My coach didn’t really like it too much when I was younger, but the fans love it and that is what this sport is about. I just love giving the fans a good show to watch.

Knowing what you do about NSC what do you feel this will do for the sport of inline speed skating?

I really think this will spark a flame in the inline speed skating world, and give it the recognition it deserves. There is entertainment, amazing racing, girls, and alcohol. When you look at all those different aspects I think it will blow up.

What do you think about the level of competition at NSC?

The level of competition in NSC is crazy. Even at indoor nationals do you rarely get the 5 fastest guys in one race. With NSC being handpicked it’s like a dream match. I can’t wait to put on a show for everyone.
