Growing up I was a traditional rink rat so that had something to do with it. That and in school I tried a bunch of other sports and nothing was quite like skating especially once it was clear I was always going to be the smallest athlete, skating was a sport that allowed me to be aggressive and competitive even with my lack of size

I live in a twon of about 1300 people, most of which are Amish

In 2007 the last day of Outdoor Nationals I skated my best to that point: broke a record, made it to the 500m final, qualified for my first World Team and it’s the same day I met my current girlfriend

In 2006 I was competing in a 13 mile outdoor race and fell, breaking my collar bone just 2 miles into it; I finished the race to go on and win the overall series
